Mass Spectrometry Professionals
The UCLA Molecular Instrumentation Center (MIC) has two immediate career opportunities for highly motivated and qualified individuals in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. This campus-wide core facility serves the vibrant, diverse research community spanning fields of chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, medicine, and the multitude of cross-disciplinary research fostered by the robust culture of collaboration at UCLA. Currently the laboratory is equipped with: Applied Biosystems 4000 Q-trap, Q-Star Elite, and Voyager-DE-STR; Thermo/Finnigan LCQ-Deca; Varian/Ionspec FT-MS; and Agilent 6890-5975 and 7500ce mass spectrometers.
The MIC Associate Director for Mass Spectrometry will provide leadership and oversee all aspects of operation and development of the laboratory including equipment operation, training of users, maintenance and upgrades, development of experimental strategies, preparation of grant proposals for expansion of the core laboratory equipment, and assistance for researchers with preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals relating to mass spectrometry, and will actively participate in advancing the goals of all areas of the UCLA MIC. Prior managerial experience in a mass spectrometry facility is preferred.
The Mass Spectrometry Staff Scientist will participate in all aspects of operation and development of the laboratory including equipment operation, training of users, maintenance and upgrades, development of experimental strategies, preparation of grant proposals for expansion of the core laboratory equipment, and assistance for researchers with preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals relating to mass spectrometry
Applicants must have demonstrated skill in the application of modern mass spectrometry methods in chemical and biochemical research, hardware and software maintenance, and instrumental troubleshooting. Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential for these positions. A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline is preferred. Interested candidates should email a CV along with contact information for three references to Dafni Amirsakis at dafni@chem.ucla.edu.
